Obsession No. 020Woodland Hills · Los Angeles

This house was in a 1961 movie called Bachelor in Paradise, which is honestly perfect.
Why it made the edit
“This house was in a 1961 movie, and somehow that makes complete sense.”
This one made the list because it was in a movie.
Charles Du Bois designed the house in 1959, and two years later it appeared in Bachelor in Paradise. Honestly, that is such a perfect bit of history for a low, sunny Woodland Hills house with walls of glass and a big pool out back.
Johnston Vidal Projects restored it, but they did not polish away everything that made it midcentury in the first place. The exposed wood ceilings are still there. The living and dining rooms still look straight through to the yard. The new kitchen has custom cabinetry and soapstone counters that can actually get better as people use them.
Outside there is an oversized pool, a lawn, layered planting, and a view toward Calabasas. The primary suite has its own sitting area and a bath with Heath tile around a freestanding tub.
Three bedrooms, three baths, and 2,135 square feet on an 11,326-square-foot corner lot, listed at $2,195,000. The movie credit is what got me, but the restoration is what makes the house worth staying for.
